Aljezur

Aljezur is a municipality where the fishing activity is predominant and with a rich and diverse natural heritage. Located along the Ocean coast, and clipped by cliffs, it presents the gorgeous beaches and the nice village center as main welcome cards. From the Castle, with two imposing towers, the plain bordered by the river and the successive hills up to Monte Clérigo beach may be seen. Still in the center, it is worth to unravel the Fonte das Mentiras, a magical and legendary place. The village preserves the Igreja da Misericórdia de Aljezur, which interior is decorated with Baroque style gold carving, and also the Church of Nossa Senhora de Alva. The cultural heritage of Aljezur is present in the Municipal Museum, the Antoniano Museum or in the recent Museu do Mar e da Terra da Carrapateira (Carrapateira Sea and Earth Museum). Along the coast you will find the Arrifana fortress ruins, a place of intense beauty with panoramic views over the Costa Vicentina and the most beautiful beaches of Portugal, among which the Arrifana and Monte Clérigo beaches stand out. Odeceixe boasts one of the hallmarks of the region: the mill, where it is still possible to watch the artisan process of cereal grinding. Aljezur is also a land of traditions, such as the famous sea bath in the commemorations of August 29th municipal holiday, or the sweet potato Festival, in the months of October and November. Highlight is the Fishermen feast, in Arrifana, which takes place on the last weekend of July.
