Convento de Santa Clara

Founded in the 16th century by Baltasar de Andrade, this was one of the richest convents in the city. The convent of Santa Clara stands out thanks to its symmetric facade, divided in three and the portico has an image of the Patron Saint. It has a spacious courtyard and an impressive two-storey cloister. Currently, the City Hall is here and a part of the building houses the Municipal Archive.

Founded in 1540, this convent features of various eras. In this monument are the main façade, the taste, the filipino side, with its three-story portico, (being the last Baroque, with pediment crowned by the Royal shield). A special attention to the balcony of Kings, five arches Gallery to the left side of the portico, the two cloisters and the interior, with three naves, with all its decoration. Currently, works here the Municipal Museum Amadeo de Souza-Cardoso.
Mosteiro de São Salvador de Travanca

This is one of the most known Romanic Monasteries. It is rather well conserved with rich sculptures elements and a high crenel tower with a bell which doorway displays in its tympanum an Agnus Dei. The church main doorway has four archivolts, in which the arches are settled in worked capitals being topped by a row of modillions. It has a crenel bell tower to which one enters by a doorway with two archivolts sculpted in low relief. In higher quota to the Church of the convent of São Gonçalo, this temple was built in the first half of the 18th century by Dominican Third. Holder of a Baroque-style facade, the interior is lavishly decorated with gilt, with a Rococo altar.

This 18th century temple presents, on the frontage, a bell ringer tower topped by an attic in small arches. The inside of the nave has panels of glazed tiles from the 17th century. It is worthy to be mentioned the sacristy roof, the altarpieces carved and the glazed tiles covering the interior.

The origin of this church may be linked to an old arabic mosque, later transformed by Dom Manuel II in the gothic-manuelin style. A special note to the rose window, the manuelin tower, the hipanic-arabic tiles and the golden carvings in the chancel, of the 18th century.
