Figueira da Foz

Known as the “Queen of the Silver Coast”, its beautiful and extensive beaches attract tourists from all over the world, also seduced by the Casino, hotels and restaurants, and unique conditions for the practice of water sports. The gastronomy, essentially based on fish and shellfish, is a good excuse to visit the region. Try the sardine rice, the cowrie bean stew, the fisherman stew or the typical Brisas da Figueira da Foz. A must-visit are the salt pans, in the estuary of the Mondego River, which were, for many years, the main economic activity of the county, representing today an important cultural landmark. As for the architectural heritage, visit the Buarcos Fortress, the Torre do Relógio or the Forte de Santa Catarina.
