Grândola
The municipality of Grândola extends from the peninsula of Troia until Melides, having two distinct types of landscapes, ranging from about 45 miles from Alentejo coast to the interior of the territory and is marked by extensive plains and mountain ranges. The around 40 archaeological sites present in the municipality testify to a human settlement that encompasses almost all periods of history, from the Neolithic age to the period of Roman occupation. Specially the Roman ruins of Troia peninsula and those of the herdade do Pinheiro. The predominant activity is agriculture, although tourism has been taking a leading role in the development of the county thanks to Troia's beautiful landscape, beaches (Troia, Carvalhal, Comporta, Galé, Alberta New and Melides) and interior landscapes. Recent investments in the peninsula of Troia came to undoubtedly accentuate the local tourist potential. The local cuisine has influences from Alentejo's interior, where dishes based on pork, lamb and game dishes, açordas (kind of porridge made with old bread), the jantarinhos (kind of stew made with different meat types and chickpeas) and the broths are predominant. For its part, the proximity to the coastal strip and its direct link with the fishing activity provides the knitting of fish dishes, including soups, pasta and caldeiradas (stews), very well represented in the local restaurants.
