Da Mouraria ao Castelo

The tour begins in the Capelão Street. Go, then, through the Mouraria Street until the Senhora da Saúde Church, where you can enjoy the woodcarving altar and the beautiful glazed tiles. Enter the picturesque Mouraria Quarter climbing the small stairs of Saúde and continue by the Largo da Rosa, where you’ll find the Convent with the same name and the São Lourenço Church. Following through the largo da Achada and going up the Calçada do Marquês de Tancos you'll find the Municipal Market Chão do Loureiro, which integrates some plastic artists’ ateliers and a beautiful esplanade. Following through the Costa do Castelo Street, you will pass the Chapitô Circus School. Here you can relax at the esplanade and enjoy a dazzling view of the city. Going down the S. Crispim Stairs, you’ll reach the S. Mamede Street, with the Correio Velho Palace on the left. You get to the Largo de Santo António following the Sé Street. Higher up is the Holy See, a building from the XII century, where you can visit the See treasure and the roman ruins. If you want to enjoy the view over the Tejo and the Alfama Quarter from the Santa Luzia Terrace, go up the Augusto Rosa Street. To reach S. Jorge Castle, follow Santo Tiago Street and keep going up – the architecture and the view are worth the effort! At the Castle gardens you will meet a superb panoramic view over the city and the estuary.
