Igreja de São Pedro

Guimarães

This church was built in 1737, with the houses of the fraternity of St. Peter, showing a simple architecture. In 1782 is granted a Royal provision that authorized the expansion of the Church. In 1880, the Junta Magna of the brotherhood authorizes the start of work, after approval by the Association of Architects of Lisbon. After a year start the works, having been demolished the houses of the brethren, and the job ended only in the early 20th century.

Romanesque, Baroque and neoclassical Church, belonging to the medieval former monastery of the Canons of St. Augustine. It consists of a longitudinal plan with a single nave and a chancel lower and narrow. Still retains some vestiges of the primitive Temple, such as cornice with Visigothic and Lombard band decorated element.
