This fortress is located by the seashore road and is partially hidden by some woods. It is called "Forte Velho" (Old Fortress) due to the fact that it is the oldest in the region. It was built by Dom Filipe I and enlarged by Dom João IV in 1643.

Former stronghold, designated as Fort of the fair, is now open, incorporating explanatory signs and becoming the backdrop for various pedagogical activities.

Fort built in the 16th century and changed and enlarged in the 19th century. It is the only military construction of San Miguel that lies in ruins.

Baleeira fort was built around 1573 and was part of a group of forts that were around at the time of the Infante D. Henrique. In 1587 it was attacked by English ships lead by the corsair Sir Francis Drake. During this attack precious archives, as well as the Infante’s library, were lost. Currently only traces of the walls remain.

16th-century Fort, sole survivor of the set of twelve forts that were part of the defensive system of the Bay of Praia da Vitória.

18th century Fort had as a historic-cultural landmark, since it protected spaces as the Neighborhood da Conceição, convent of San Francisco and Calvary.

Also known as Forte das Casas Velhas, it is part of the second of the Torres Lines, overlooking the Lisandro River and its tributary, the Vidigueira stream.

Loulé was taken from the moors by D. Paio Peres Correia in 1249. In 1268, D. Afonso III gave it its charter. This fort was built during the reign of D. João II and restored at the end of the 18th century. Currently it has the shape of a four beaked star and is in ruins.

Small defensive Fort built between 1670 and 1675, today in ruins. Intended to control maritime access to Ericeira and the nearby Bay formed by the beach of Ribeira de Ilhas.

Built during D. João IV’s reign to defend the fishing centre of Burgau, this fort is now in a bad state of ruins. Traces of the original defensive walls can still be seen.
