The rocks of the Coastline from Oporto are the oldest which outcrop in Portugal and constitute a geological heritage of high scientific interest-didactic, the Metamorphic Complex of Foz do Douro, classified as Municipal Natural Heritage. In April 2005 was created a thematic route for dissemination of this designated heritage by "Geological Tour of Foz do Douro", signaled with nine panels of information addressed to the general public. Comprising the municipalities of Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo, Freixo de Espada-à-Cinta, Miranda do Douro and Mogadouro, the Natural Park of the International Douro includes the 122 km of the Douro river's borderline and continues to the south, until the Águeda river valley. From a rather deep valley and two plains (mostly composed of granite), one to the north with altitides that go from 700 to 800 metres and another to the south with altitudes that go from 600 to 700 metres. A dam located in the international Douro, where the river starts its rather deep descent from the mesa. The access of boats to the water is quite difficult. The most common fish species are the barbel and the nase. Recreational activities are permitted, albeit with some restrictions.
