Located in the "freguesias" (an administrative subdivision) of Querença and Tôr, the Classified Site of Fonte Benémola is an area of great beauty, where the stream of Menalva (with some natural springs) is the habitat of a flora made of ash-trees, weeping willows, tamarisks and laurustines. The fact that there is water all year round attracts a great diversity of animals, namely kingfishers, titmice, herons, bee-eaters and otters.

As so happens in several towns of the Algarve, on can see the presence of various peoples in Loulé: phoenicians, carthaginian, romans and moors, who take over the city in 715. The Christian reconquest occurs in 1249 and in 1268 the fortress is reconstructed and enlarged. Later, in the 16th century, it is rebuilt. Currently, there are still some vestiges in the Rua da Barbacã, Largo da Matriz and Rua Rainha D. Leonor.

All that is left of this gothic temple is the gothic portal, sided by two even columns of polished marble with chapiters with vegetal decoration. The last archivolt is furrowed with stylized flowers and there is a star with six beaks at the top.

Much sought after by tourists, what remains of the Albicastrense Castle rises in an area overlooking the city. It was built by the Templars in the Middle Ages, this despite the traces of human presence in that area in pre- and proto-history, having been surrounded by a line of walls and towers. In the precinct of the fortress, in the citadel, were the Church of Santa Maria do Castelo and the Palácio dos Alcaides. This fortification was part of a defensive system that bordered the Tagus River.

Baroque church of longitudinal plant, consisting of a nave, a chancel narrower, a quadrangular Tower and a sacristy adossadas the left side façade. Inside, more properly in the chancel, we highlight the main altarpiece and the ribs covered with gilt.
