Tapada de Vila Viçosa

One of the preferred hunting areas of the king Dom Carlos, the Tapada of Vila Viçosa was managed by the Foundation of the House of Bragança. In 1981, the Direcção-Geral das Florestas (the organism that manages the forests) acquired 269 of the approximate 1200 hectares of the "tapada". There are several species of animals, namely the Iberian linx, the royal eagle, the black heron and the black vulture.
