This was the first golf course in Madeira, built in 1937 and then redesigned in 1991 by the famous golf architect Robert Trent Jones. Overlooking Machico Bay, it has three courses, each with two par-5s, two par-3s and five par-4s. The "Machico" and "Desertas" courses are those usually used during the Madeira Open, while the "Serras" course, gently flat, maintains the level of play. Santo da Serra hosts the Madeira Open annually, a tournament integrated into the PGA European Tour.

Bathing set opened in 2003. It has two sea water pools, one for children and other for adults, and two sea accesses. It also has locker rooms and a snack-bar viewing the sea.
