Mêda

A medieval place where the castle, an old Templar fortress restored by Gualdim Paes, stands out. Among the architectural heritage, a special note to the donjon, a national monument, the pillory, the mother church and the chapel of Our Lady of Torrão, built on the rocks. Roamanesque, manuelin and baroque elements are apparent. A special note to its medicinal sulphurous waters.

Mêda

Located on the left bank of the Alva river, this small town stands on a hill surrounded by pine trees and cliffs. Its main economic activity is agriculture, namely cereals, wine and olive oil. With "castro" (a celtic village) roots, it was occupied by the goths and the romans and later peopled by the king Dom Afonso Henriques. Marialva is divided in three sections, the Devesa, that spreads along the planes, the town, medieval and of the 1500s, and the citadel, inside the walls, currently with no inhabitants. There is an old mill as well.
