Condeixa-a-Nova

From the arab "al" and from the latin "caput aquae", Alcabideque has once furnished water to Conimbriga and Condeixa-a-Velha through a large aqueduct, restored by the romans, at the time of Augustus. It is located near th roman ruins of Conimbriga and has existed since well befor the foundation of Portugal. It has an aqueduct and a "castellum" (a small roman tower).

Condeixa-a-Nova

A very old village, conquered to the moors by Dom Afonso Henriques. Later, it was given to the Order of Christ and the title of Count of Ega was created in the 18th century. The villag is located in a lowland by the Ega river and boasts the church, the pillory and some 17th and 19th centuries houses with coats of arms.

It may date back to before the foundation of Portugal. It is located by the springs of the brook that crosses Condeixa. The monuments include the mother church, rebuilt in the 18th century, the chapel of Our Lady of the Adro (churchyard), with an 18th century retable, and an 18th century house with ioninc columns and a balcony.
