The museum, opened in 1999, shows a collection selection of 200 objects – furniture, utilitarian objects and glass objects- organized chronologically to evidence the design evolution since 1937 till nowadays. It has works from designers such as Alvar Aalto, Gio Ponti, Tom Dixon and Philippe Starck, as well as the Portuguese Siza Vieira, Pedro Silva Dias and Damiano Costa.
Museum installed at the majestic palace of the Calheta Counts, from the XVIII century. Decorated with beautiful and ancient glazed tiles, inside the museum you will find more than 2000 samples of wood and about 50000 exemplars of dried plants.
A space-bookshop that welcomes several artistic events, such as exhibitions and workshops. It also has a bar and a terrace where one may read a book and listen to the background music.
The children's Museum promotes a modern and fun communication scheme with the aim of motivating children to discover the world around them. In addition to many toys organizes various activities (conceived and directed the groups according to the various age groups) to awaken the curiosity, imagination, fantasy and the pleasure of learning, with themes like the human body, the five senses, music, history, mathematics, nutrition, and other. Also hosts birthday parties, duly supervised by skilled animators.
Located at the basement of the Príncipe Real square, with a capacity of 880 m3, it was supplied by the Águas Livres Aqueduct. The museum is divided in four nucleuses: the Águas Livres Aqueduct, the Mãe de Água of Amoreiras, the Patriarchal Reservoir and the Elevatory Station of the Barbadinhos.
