Built in the 18th century, designed by Nicolau Nasoni, the House of Mateus is an ex-libris of the Portuguese baroque. The chapel was designed by the master José Álvaro Rego. Crestaed in 1970 by D. Francisco de Sousa Botelho de Albuquerque, its aims are the preservation of the House, the study of its archives, and the promotion of cultural, scientific and pedagogic activities. The activities of the Foundation are mainly related to literature and music. The gardens are extremely well preserved and possess a rare beauty. The interior was transformed and it is belived that in one of the sarcophagues lies the famous warrior known as the Espadeiro (swordsman). The tomb has a sowrd between two half moons, simbolizing the legendary bravery of the Espadeiro and the city's arms. Currently, this chapel is part of the Church of Saint Denis.

A manor of the 18th century that was restored by the Town Council when it was decaying in order to install there the collections of ancient numismatics and archaeology of Father João Parente. The building was bought with money from the Town Hall and the help of donations from citizens. Here you can find one of the largest numismatic collections, as well as other archaeological artefacts.
