A benedictin convent that dates back to the 12th century, totally remodelled in the 17th and 18th centuries. The façade is sided by two belltowers that end a fronton topped by a cross. The church, in the shape of a cross, has a nave with a cylinder shaped dome. The cloyster has, on the lower floor, six toscane archways and a baroque fountain in the centre.

It was built in 1569 by João Correia. It is a Renaissance church from which the portico on the flat wall stands out, sided by four ionic columns and a glassed rose window. The interior is composed by three naves, separated by arcades and supported in ionic columns. On the Gospel side there is a manueline chapel that kept its original vault and an arch flanked by two sculpted capitals.

The place where it was deployed this temple, originally in the 11th century and rebuilt in the 13th century, is of great importance both as strategic geographic, in following the politics of King Alfonso III of Asturias in secure population in the Douro Valley and create security conditions in the area during the Reconquista. Late Romanesque architecture displays, resulting radical renovations between the 13th and 14th centuries, and modest construction, because the Eja influence would be reducing despite the importance of the territory of "Anegia" from 870.
