These doors represent the main entry into Ponta Delgada and are the real ex-libris of the city. Its three imposing arches built in the 18th century open to tourists all Ponta Delgada has to offer. Next to the Doors of the city stands the statue of Gonçalo Velho Cabral and the old buildings of the square with the same name of the browser.

Erected in the square with the same name, this statue, along with the city gates, forming the main entrance in the city of Ponta Delgada. Gonçalo Velho Cabral discovered the Formigas in 1431, following a first sighted Islands location trip by Diogo de Silves, in 1427. In 1432 landed on the islands of Santa Maria and São Miguel.
