Ponta Delgada is located on the southwestern tip of São Miguel Island, also known as the Green Island, a paradise in the middle of the Atlantic. Among the municipality's many natural wonders, be sure to visit the water springs, volcanic craters, and lagoons, especially the Sete Cidades Lagoons. On an island full of attractions, it's difficult to list them all: from its diverse fauna and lush flora, to typical houses, and regional products such as São Miguel pineapples or the local wine. In terms of gastronomy, highlights include fish stews, limpet rice, "caldo azedo" (a type of soup), "massa sovada", and "bolo lêvedo". Nearby, in the parish of Povoação, don't miss the famous Furnas stews, made using the earth's heat.
