Situated in the Alentejo Village of Alter do Chão, is the result of the recovery of an ancient Franciscan convent from the late 16th century. With thirty rooms, meeting rooms, swimming-pool for adults and children and bar service, light meals and snacks, is without doubt one of the most complete and comfortable units of North Alentejo, constituting itself as a regional asset.

The current building of the cottage, was used by the military of the army that between the period of 1910 to 1942 they settled on Tapada do Arneiro turning this building in the officers ' Mess. Already in 1996 the building was enlarged and remodeled in order to serve the State Protocol. The Alter Real Foundation decides to open the building to the public as country house in October 2011.
