João de Deus Ramos called the Museum the library of the Portuguese culture, devoting all his life to join works that direct or indirectly may be of interest to the Portuguese culture. In its room defiled the most important Portuguese and Brazilian figures of literature, arts and music. Its collection includes a large number of reading initiation methods, the correspondence and the personal objects of de João de Deus e de João de Deus Ramos and the teixeira de Queiroz archive.

Space devoted to the ornamental arts, placed at the Condes de Azurara Palace (XVII century). The collection includes the silver and china collection, the exotic wood furniture, various antiques from the XVII and XVIII centuries, among other works that belong to the private collection of Ricardo Espírito Santo Silva.

The exhibition “Chemist’s, 5 thousand years of history”, tries to assemble chronologically the material related to the history of the Chemist’s, since the old times until nowadays. This Museum was distinguished by the Portuguese Museology Association with the award of best museum in 1998.

In this museum, contiguous to the São Roque church, there is a religious art collection from the XVI to the XVIII centuries, the ruling period of the Companhia de Jesus. The silver collections, as well as some treasures belonging to the São João Chapel, namely the silver, lazúli- crayon altar are worthy of notice.

This is a museum of contemporary history, politics and institutional where the public gets to know a little more about the presidential institution, its history and its presidents.
