It is the highest mountain of Portugal, with 2351 meters above sea level, ending at crater of the Big Peak, where rises the Small Peak, whose base emanates fumaroles. It is classified as a nature reserve and, in 2010, its volcanic landscape was classified as one of the Seven natural wonders of Portugal. There is a possibility to make the ascent, in the summer months, in the presence of a guide.

The vineyard culture landscape of the Pico Island is composed of the Lajido of creation by the old Lajido of Santa Luzia, occupying a total of 154 hectares. These places are excellent representations of traditional architecture, landscape design and natural elements, located on extensive lava fields. These are characterized by extreme wealth and geological and landscape beauty. The diversity of fauna and flora there this is associated with an abundance of endemic rare species and communities, and protection status. Since 2004 the vineyard culture landscape of the Pico Island is classified by UNESCO as a world heritage site.
