Monuments in Peniche
Largo Nossa Senhora da Consolação
Located next to praia da Consolação, was built in the mid 17TH century. The door is surmounted by the Royal Arms and the bridge over the moat is supported by two barrel-vaulted galleries.

Peniche is surrounded partly by 16th century walls that surround the white houses divided by narrow streets. The ramparts defended the city from that time, in conjunction with the Fort of consolation and the Fort of São João Baptista das Berlengas. However, during the Peninsular War, proved weak, succumbing to the Napoleonic invasions of 1807.

The chapel of Nossa Senhora dos Remédios, located along the coast at the western end of the peninsula of Peniche, forms the basis of a sanctuary consecrated to worship mariano. This temple was constructed in the 14th century and it displays a primitive Gothic character, dimed by Manueline elements, such as the sacristy door, and Mannerist features like the lateral chapels and the total coverage in pattern glazed tiles. On the nave ceiling it is possible to observe some panels picturing scenes from the Old Testament.
