Vila Viçosa

The structure of this church is similar to the Hermitage of s. Benedict. As is at the top of a hillock, provides a panoramic view of great quality. It consists of open porch (built later), nave, chancel and other dependencies. In the second half of the 20th century, the tiles and the altarpiece of the high altar were stolen. The renovation works are underway and is privately owned by an individual.

This church was founded in 1636 and it is an example from the sixteen hundreds architecture, with a plan in Latin cross, one only nave with lateral chapels, transept and ample main chapel. This last one displays coverage in barrel vault and elevations covered with blue and white glazed tiles, standing out the golden carved big altarpiece, with the throne and the sacrarium also in golden wood. The high choir is settled in three perfectly vaulted arches with balustrade. Vila Viçosa

This blockhouse was built by Theodosius I, at the same time when doing the finishes of the fortress artillery of the Castle. In the 18th century was reinforced by d. João V, a century after having been demolished after the war of restoration.

Vila Viçosa

This chapel was built in the 16th century, but was badly damaged by the war of Restoration, in addition to having been greatly altered in the Baroque period. The interior is fully lined with Baroque murals, restored in the 20th century. Currently open only to the annual party of the Patron Saint, on Pentecost Sunday.
