From Ancão (east of Faro) to Manta Rota Beach, the Ria Formosa presents itself as a unique configuration that gives the Algarve's leeward coast a special color. The 60 km that make up the Ria Formosa Natural Park are composed of semi-still waters, mudflats, mangroves, salt pans, channels, and five islets. Barreta, Culatra, Armona, Tavira, and Cabanas are the names of these constantly transforming sandy formations, which, separating the land from the sea, create an extremely rich natural barrier in terms of flora and fauna. It has been classified as one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Portugal.

Ideal for sport fishing enthusiasts, the mouth of the Guadiana River offers excellent views of the neighboring country. In Castro Marim, with the widening of the riverbed, the area classified as a Nature Reserve is dominated by salt marshes and former rice paddies. The Guadiana River runs for 830 km and is navigable for the last 48 km, where its width varies between 100 and 500 meters.

An ancient medieval village built upon Roman and Islamic structures. This small complex still preserves its medieval and 16th-century structure. It is classified as a Property of Public Interest.

A sandbar located at the end of the Ria Formosa estuary, accessible by boat or on foot (when the tide is low). Almost untouched, this secluded sandy area is a paradise. Cacela is known for its fortress built in 1770 by Dom Rodrigo de Noronha. From its battlements, atop the hill, there is a magnificent view over the green waters of the estuary and the long dune system of Praia da Fábrica. A cultural center located in the former market of Vila Real de Santo António. It has a large auditorium where various shows take place. Temporary exhibitions of painting and sculpture are also organized.

A highly regarded marina, located on the Guadiana River, next to the luxury area of ​​Vila Real de Santo António. It has capacity for approximately 360 boats, a refueling area, and a workshop for repairing sails, hulls, and engines.

Located in a picturesque fishing village, this beach boasts a long, calm stretch of sand, tranquil waters, good infrastructure, and a variety of restaurants. The area features a market, numerous shops, the Arts Centre, and the Ria Formosa Natural Park, all offering excellent reasons for a stroll. For those coming from the west, this is the last beach, overlooking the Spanish town of Ayamonte. Despite its popularity, it offers a peaceful stay and is also sought after by amateur fishermen. Here you can enjoy the sea, the Guadiana River, or stroll through the National Forest of the Coastal Dunes. The sand is extensive and without obstacles.
