Museu Etnográfico de Vilarinho das Furnas

Opened in 1989, this museum showcases the cultural heritage of the village of Vilarinho das Furnas, which was destroyed by a dam (Vilarinho das Furnas dam) in 1972. It also displays some collections from other locations in the municipality of Terras de Bouro.

A collection of milestones, some dating from Titus Domitian, Nerva, Trajan, or Hadrian. Here, one can read miles XXXIII, XXXIIII, XXXV, or XXXVI, counted from Bracara Augusta. This road, possibly built in the last third of the 1st century AD, connected Bracara Augusta (Braga) to Asturica Augusta (present-day Astorga, Spain) and covers a distance of approximately 215 miles (about 318 kilometers).

Sanctuary in honor of Saint Benedict, from where you can enjoy beautiful panoramic views of the entire Serra do Gerês mountain range. The chancel and altar are dedicated to this saint, a cult that dates back to the mid-18th century. The sanctuary hosts the main pilgrimage from August 10 to 15, and other festivities on March 21 and July 11.

A Mannerist and Rococo church, built in the 16th century, consisting of a single nave and a lower, narrower chancel. A bell tower and a sacristy are also attached to the facade. Having been burned down several times by pirates and corsairs who landed on the island, it now preserves beautiful altarpieces and paintings inside, by Martim Conrado and Max Romer.

This is a museum dedicated to Christopher Columbus and his presence in Porto Santo, highlighting period furniture, engravings of Christopher Columbus, reproductions of clothing from that time, and a series of manuscripts, including the logbook of his 3rd voyage. Of particular note is the exhibition depicting the sinking off the north coast of the island of the galleon Sloot Ter Hooge, belonging to the Dutch East India Company, and the matamorras, the pits where cereals were stored.
