Jardim Tropical Monte Palace

This is one of the most beautiful gardens of Madeira Island, located about 5km away from Funchal city centre. It occupies an area of 70000 m2 and is reforested with exotic plants, derived from various continents. It is possible to see cycads and proteas from South Africa, heather from Scotland or sequoias from America. The vegetation blends with lagoons filled with Koi fish, offering a show of beauty and colouring. The lanes of the Garden are full of glazed tiles panels from the XVI and XX centuries. The terracotta panels and the 40 panels referring to the history of Portugal are worthy of notice.
