Vila de Rei

Vila de Rei is a small village belonging to the district of Castelo Branco and three parishes belong to it. It is closely linked to the geodesic center of Portugal, which is located here. The point is marked by a geodesic landmark, at the top of the Melriça mountain range, called Picoto da Melriça. The municipality is rich in natural landscapes, with Penedo Furado being one of its exponents. The gastronomy, similar to the adjacent regions, includes fish soup, stuffed tripe, roast goat, "maranhos" and sausages. The best-known sweets are rice pudding, honey breads and "tijeladas". All these factors and those that the visitor will discover give meaning to the municipality's slogan - Vila de Rei: a jewel in the heart of Portugal.
