Almodôvar
The municipality of Almodôvar is located in the Baixo Alentejo, Beja district, between the Serra do Caldeirão and the Alentejo lowland. The Igreja Matriz de Almodôvar (mother church), the convent of Nossa Senhora da Conceição, the Ermida de Santo António, the Manueline Window-Praça da República, the Biblioteca-Museu Municipal Severo Portela (Severo Portela Municipal Library-Museum) and thePalheiros de Veio are some of the famous monuments within the municipality. The main wealth of Almodôvar are the cork, medronho (arbutus brandy), goat cheese and honey. The wool and patchwork blankets, the rope, leather and cork works, the handmade shoes and the basketry are some examples of the typical craftsmanship. In September/October the "autumn in Almodôvar"- Music Week (dedicated to classical and traditional music) and the "Heritage Days" (disclosure of the built heritage through guided visits to the monuments) take place.
