Almodôvar

The municipality of Almodôvar is located in the Lower Alentejo region, in the Beja district, between the Serra do Caldeirão and the Alentejo plains. Almodôvar's main resources are cork, medronho brandy, goat cheese, and honey. Wool and patchwork blankets, rope, leather, and cork work, artisanal footwear, and basketwork are some examples of the region's traditional crafts. In September and October, "outono em Almodôvar" takes place, a Music Week (dedicated to classical and traditional music) and "Jornadas do Património" (promotion of built heritage through guided tours of monuments).

Museu Severo Portela

Almodôvar

This space is housed in a century-old building, which was restored in 1982 to house a museum and small library. Highlights include paintings, drawings, sculptures, books, diplomas, and decorations by master Severo Portela.

Museu da Escrita do Sudoeste

It is located in the center of Almodôvar, in the building of the former Municipal Cinema Theater. It opened to the public in 2007, showcasing pieces discovered in the Almodôvar archaeological site. It is dedicated to the earliest form of writing in the Iberian Peninsula, which dates back to the Iron Age and has not yet been deciphered.

Povoado/Estação Arqueológica de Mesas de Castelinho
