Reguengos de Monsaraz

It is one of the four doors that allows to access to the inside of the Castle of Monsaraz defensive walls. Each door is made out of granite, red clay mortar and burnt lime. The landscaped effect it creates is remarkable once it is done in plain arch. This door underwent several works for its preservation.

This set of fifty menhirs defining a regular quadrangular enclosure was discovered and identified by the Portuguese. Although fractured, some have phallic configuration, other 200, involving a giant center post with phallic configuration, four feet high and 7 tons of weight. It was the only monument moved to another location in the entire region of Alqueva and was installed in 2004.

This Monument has an indescribable architectonic value. It emerged as a response to the administrative and economic development in Monsaraz town during the second quarter of the 14th century. It is known as the Good and Bad Judge fresco. It is precisely on the inferior panel that are located the Good and Bad Judge figures in a Civil trial.

Small church situated in the locality of the same name, about 3 kilometers from Reguengos de Monsaraz. The first reference to this 16th century Church dates back to 1326. Was being constructed over the centuries, although the earthquake of 1755 may have caused some damage. Was recovered in 1998.

Reguengos de Monsaraz

Was successively expanded to such an extent that the monument primitive disappeared, although traces remain of josefino period. In the 20th century its state of degradation was ruinous, but in 1987 began to be rebuilt and today is also a diversified cultural space.

Reguengos de Monsaraz

The Foundation of this Convent is of 1670 and was due to the Discalced Augustinians. Its construction began in 1700, by prior John Calvary, but only in 1741 was finished. Currently, after being recovered by the Convento da Orada, is also Rural Hotel and the archaeological museum, where exhibitions and events are organized.
