The church was built in the 15th century and underwent significant alterations later. The façade features a portico with fluted columns and a triangular pediment. The interior is lined with 18th-century tiles depicting scenes from the life of the Virgin. The chancel is Manueline, and the portals are Renaissance.

The uniqueness of this temple comes from the monumental height of the nave, with its slightly oval plan and walls, contrasting with the low, rectangular forms of the vestibule and chancel. The portal, topped by windows, is framed and sculpted. The gilded altarpieces and stucco work are particularly noteworthy.

The shops at the ground floor give the space art galleries today. Already the top-floor rooms, serve as temporary residence of artists. The attic was adapted and works as artistic atelier.

Located in the Bastion of Nossa Senhora das Brotas, onde war material was manufactured and repaired here. It also functioned as a barracks and, during the 19th century, it was ruined. Here you can have classes and even hippotherapy sessions.
