Igreja do Colégio dos Jesuítas

The building of the Jesuit College was founded in 1660 from the project of Bartholomew Duarte. The College has a church nave, the widest of Portimão. Currently, in the side of the building, bodies are installed the Parish Council, the Museum of painting and the support center for the elderly.

This renaissance temple was constructed during the 14th and 16th centuries above a former chapel and it suffered damages with the 1755 earthquake. It has a simple façade dominated by an imposing bell ringer tower. The lateral door presents two curious sculpted human figures. On the main altar it stands out a monumental image with our Lady of Glory coming from Brasil and for a crucifix from the 16th century that tradition says it was in Alcácer – Quibir battle.

The current building was designed by Joaquim Norte Júnior and inaugurated on June 30, 1934. It replaced the building that burned down in 1930 at the same venue, property of the Masonic society "Love of the fatherland". Bell Tower that belonged to the primitive Church of Horta. The clock tower was not part of the original set of the Church, but have been built in the early 18TH century. The Church, on your lathe, suffered many calamities since its construction and was demolished in 1825. Have quadrangular, three storeys and is built essentially on stone masonry plastered and painted white. Includes a clock with dial in each of the four sides, under the spans of bells.
