This park was built by the Duques of Palmela around the year of 1870. It welcomed parties and bazaars and it is still the place of several cultural activities. It has an open air amphitheatre where symphonic orchestras, jazz bands, vocal groups and even theatre companies have performed. It has a lush, very characteristic vegetation. There are also fitness circuits.

The only covered area open to the public allows, in its 1187 hectares of forest, contact with countless animal species. The Cerco garden surrounds the building, covering an area of 8 hectares, and works as a transition element between the monument and Tapada de Mafra. The central pond, the water wheel and the small lakes are worth mentioning.

Green area with 36000 m2, which offers a breathtaking view over Funchal. Highlight for a lagoon with a small island, where ducks and swans live, for the bird aviaries and for some sculptures dedicated to different personalities.

A panoramic place fit for practising radical sports. The viewable landscape is wide. There is a legend that tells that a knight the chased the devil, disguised as a deer, jumped over the abbiss at the Lugar do Salto. As he fell, he called for the name of Our Lady and miraculously both horse and knight managed it to the other side, where one can still see the marks of the horse's horseshoes. To thank Our Lady, the knight oredered that the chapel of Our Lady of Salto would be built. This place is much appreciated both by the locals …

Considered to be one of the city’s ex-libris, the Serra do Pilar (and its typical church) is located at the city entrance, one of the highest places of Vila Nova de Gaia. The Convent, that no longer functions, belonged to the observing prebendary of Santo Agostinho, that occupied the place during the 16th century. In front of the church there’s a belvedere with one of the most beautiful panoramic views of Oporto.

Located next to the upper deck of the D. Luís bridge, at the foot of Serra do Pilar, Jardim do Morro has an abundant green area, a children's playground, an esplanade and an open-air auditorium, often the stage for shows. There is a viewpoint with a panoramic view of the city of Porto and the Douro River.
