Mortágua

In the municipality of Mortágua, part of the extreme southwest of the district of Viseu, the confluence with the Caramulo and Buçaco mountains, the Aguieira Dam, the waterfalls and the shale villages are the main characteristic features of the municipality. Anyone who passes through these lands should try "lampantana", a dish made with sheep meat, roasted in a clay pot, served with "fardada" ("uniformed") potatoes and accompanied by greens. Equally symbolic is the "cornos" (horns) cake, the typical Easter cake. Any delicacy should naturally be enjoyed in the company of Dão wines. To remember a visit to Mortágua, red clay pieces are suggested, the painting of which turns these ceramic pieces into a beautiful artisanal legacy.
