Santa Comba Dão
Located in the central region of the Dão-Lafões sub-region, Santa Comba Dão lies between the Dão and Mondego rivers, halfway between Viseu and Coimbra. One couldn't talk about Santa Comba Dão without mentioning one of Portugal's most important historical figures: António de Oliveira Salazar, born in Vimieiro in 1889. You can visit his birthplace, located on the avenue that bears his name. In terms of cuisine, we highlight a variety of delicious soups, such as "sopa à lavrador" (Lavrador's soup), crushed chestnut soup, "coiratos" soup, broad bean and ham soup, and "sopa de grelos". Also, be sure to try "sarrabulho" (Beira Alta-style sarrabulho) and lamprey mouth-of-the-Dão style soup. Pair with delicious Dão wine.
