The municipality of Palmela is situated in the middle of the Lisbon Metropolitan area, with approximately 462 km2 is composed of five parishes all shoot each other in terms of demographic dynamism, occupation and land use. Is integrated in the tourism region of Setúbal-Costa Azul. A part of its territory is part of the nature reserve of the Sado estuary, the other the Natural Park of Serra da Arrábida. In economic terms, the industry and services are the sectors most representative municipal level, although agriculture still holds some weight, due to the rural characteristics present in the municipality. Palmela was, very early on, a territory conducive to human attachment. Proof of this are the oldest archaeological remains dating back since the ancient prehistory until the Muslim era. In terms of architectural heritage, the Castelo de Palmela is the most imposing fortified the municipality, classified as a national monument in 1910. In addition, the scenic beauty and the products produced in the region present themselves as "landmarks", as they are known in the country and much sought after by visitors. The feast of Harvest, which takes place annually in late August, continues to be the most expressive promotion of indigenous products.
