Penamacor

Penamacor is part of the Beira Baixa region, part of the Castelo Branco district. The Serra da Malcata mountain range dominates the landscape, and from it the main economic activities originate. Currently, the activities that guarantee the livelihood of the majority of the population are agriculture, livestock farming, dairy farming, cork mining, marble, and granite. The investment in local tourism has paid off. A trip to Penamacor is always worthwhile, not only for the green landscape and the picturesque houses and streets, but also for its people, traditions, and cuisine. Sausages, cheese, "chanfana", and goat are among the most common dishes; among sweets, sponge cake and rice pudding are the most traditional.
