Peso da Régua

A city nestled on the banks of the Douro River, Régua has always known how to capitalize on its location and climate, focusing on the production of Douro wines. In 1757, the creation of the General Company of Agriculture and Commerce of Alto Douro Wines sparked its expansion, with the construction of large wineries along the river. Today, winemaking, along with the rural tourism that stems from this culture, are the region's main drivers of development. But, since man doesn't live by wine alone, the region offers visitors a variety of traditional dishes to die for, such as oven-baked rice with roast kid, "falachas", "rabelo" sweets, and "Ferreirinhas". Don't forget to try Régua's famous sweets!
