Santa Cruz das Flores
The municipality of Santa Cruz das Flores is one of the two that make up Flores Island. The oldest reference to this municipality dates back to 1548, narrating the arrival of the crew of the ship Nossa Senhora da Misericórdia. In 1841, the village of Santa Cruz became the sole district of Flores and Corvo. In the brief period between 1895 and 1898, the municipality was extinguished. Some of the natural formations to be highlighted in the municipality are: the islets of Maria Vaz, Abrões and Monchique, Pico da Burrinha, Monte das Cruzes and the volcanic craters Caldeira Comprida and Caldeira Negra. The main activity is agriculture, although the influence of the Gulf Stream brings frequent storms.
