Lajes das Flores

Located in the west of Flores Island, the municipality of Lajes das Flores is one of the least populated in the Azores, the westernmost in Europe and the second smallest in the country. The main activities are agriculture, livestock and fishing. The relief is rugged and bears witness to the volcanic phenomena that shaped the island. The high cliffs alternate with flat areas, craters, waterfalls and lagoons. The region's peripheral position favored emigration in the 20th century, especially to America. Today, the municipality invests heavily in tourism. There are several points of interest that delight nature lovers: waterfalls, lagoons and rock formations.
