Baião

Baião is a municipality that marks the transition of the region between Douro and Minho to Trás-os-Montes, with its landscape torn by the Douro River and marked by extensive hectares of vineyards. Handicrafts and gastronomy are very well represented. Gestaçô's walking sticks, Frende's worst baskets, tin objects, blankets and straw hats are some of the craft icons. Much sought after and famous is the oven-roasted lamb, which is often accompanied by the region's green wine, not forgetting the "bazulaque". Teixeira sweets and sweet soup are two specialties! The many pilgrimages that take place at different times of the year, with emphasis on that of S. Bartolomeu, attract numerous visitors.
