Parque Natural de Montesinho

Located in the mountainous extreme of the northwest of Trás-os-Montes, the long square that is the Natural Park of Montesinho, occupies the areas of Bragança and Vinhais. The constant waves in the soil make us forget that we are in a mountainous area. There are no abrupt peeks but round shaped forms. In this "cold" landscape of Trás-os-Montes there are the mountains of Montesinho (1480 m), Coroa (1272 m), Mofreita (1147 m), Seculqueira (1146 m) and Guadramil (1026 m). The Park has great importance in faunistic terms: here one can find the most important population of the Iberian wolf and 50% of the reptiles and anphibious that exist in Portugal. The vestiges in several villages of the Park and the varied flora are also important. The Montesinho mountain is the centre of attentions and the remnant mountains rise around it. One last word to the several river valleys of the many rivers one can find here (Mente, Maçãs, Rabaçal, Assureira, rio de Trutas, Tuela, Baceiro, Sabor, Igrejas and rio de Onor).
