The Montesinho Natural Park, which covers the municipalities of Bragança and Vinhais in the northeast transmontano, is one of the must-see places in this region for any visitor. The faunal diversity is highlighted by the Iberian wolf, among other rare species. In the Park, very inviting for long walks, discover the serra de Montesinho. The Praça da Sé in the city center deserves a stop, as well as the church of the cathedral, which can be visited and where the gilded altarpiece and the 16th-century cloister stand out. Still in the center, discover the 18th century buildings, which show the experiences of the past high society, e.g. the Palacete dos Calaínhos or the Solar dos Teixeiras. The sausages are the pride of the regional gastronomy. Those who visit Bragança taste, or even take with them, alheiras (kind of sausages), ham, cured sausages, among the many local sausages. The famous folar de Bragança (kind of bread with pork meat and different types of sausages) is another typical product of this area. The medieval town layout is well preserved, as well as its castle and dungeon, with sight to the Transmontano region. One of the suggested walks starts in the center and goes in direction of the river, giving the opportunity to get to know the typical Bragança districts. It is in the garden António José de Almeida, with views over the Fervença river, that the tour ends. To learn more about the local history there is the Museum Abade de Baçal with the bragançano spoil. The Museu Ibérico da Máscara e do Traje (Iberian Museum of the Mask and Costume), founded through the partnership between the regions of Zamora and Bragança, is also worth a visit. The "caretos" are the masks of Bragança and one of the most typical local handicraft pieces. These are evil images in unique masks, that come out to the streets during the traditional festivities.
