About 1000 meters southwest of the village of Pitões das Júnias and camouflaged by a dense oak is the town abandoned of Gerez. Traces remain of about 40 houses of quadrangular, built with granite blocks, some crudely equipped. The streets between the houses are also well preserved, and still retain the lajeado. The spacing between the houses is about 3\/4 feet, some retain just over a metre of wall, but you can imagine, without great efforts the architecture of this village. Construction of the building began in the 1920s and dragged on for many years. It was finally inaugurated on 24 June, 1957. The work was architecturally inspired in the great communal palaces of northern France and Flanders. The building consists of a basement, six floors and interior patios, occupying an area of 2,438 m2. Constructed of granite from the quarries of S. Gens and Fafe, with the remaining materials being: reinforced concrete, marbles of different colours and oak and sucupira woods. The castro de Medeiros, also called Cabeço dos Mouros, is located between monte da Corujeira and Christian Carambos and is about 3 kilometres from the Centre of the village of Montalegre. Is a town surrounded by two rows of walls and a deep moat. The outer wall is visible from the South and west sides, about 2 metres wide, whose interior is filled with Earth and stone girl.
