Of the castle complex, the Keep stands out – almost 40 meters high – dating from the time of King Dinis, made of marble, with a twin window and a machicolated balcony surrounding it. A masterpiece of military architecture, the Tower of Beja has great historical and monumental value. Of the defensive constructions of Roman origin, only the arch of the Porta da Vila (Town Gate) and the arch of the Porta de Évora (Évora Gate) remain. The Porta da Moura (Moorish Gate) is the only vestige of the medieval fortification.

Located 25 kilometers from the town center is this monument of probable Arab origin. Rebuilt after the 1531 earthquake, it features an interesting sculpture above the main gate, where three castles and an eagle are visible. After assuming great defensive importance, it lost its usefulness over the years, and only between 1941 and 1954 did it undergo renovations that gave it its current appearance, with two towers. It served as a prison during the Middle Ages.

Silves Castle is the largest in the Algarve and one of the most notable works of military architecture bequeathed by the Arabs. The structure was composed of several elements: the citadel, the Almedina walls, the Curaçao, the Arrabalde walls, and several moats. An imposing defensive complex located in a location of great panoramic beauty. Most of the castle's buildings date from 1226 and 1230. It was modified and expanded in the 15th, 16th, and 17th centuries. During the reign of King Dinis, bastions, walls, and forts were built. From the reconstruction, only the keep and some sections of the wall remain.

Located atop a hill, this castle was part of the Guadiana River defense line. It consists of a walled enclosure with turrets, a keep, and two gates, one flanked by towers. Documentary accounts attribute the construction of this castle to King John I, who integrated the town into the Patronage of the Order of Aviz. It was severely damaged during the Castilian Wars and the 1755 earthquake.

This castle was built on an ancient Lusitanian hill fort that the Romans fortified. The original castle's highlights include the citadel with its keep, the vaulted cistern, and two gates, the Porta dos Fogos and the Porta do Sol, which define the wall structure of the old town. The cistern is located near a section of the wall. During the 16th and 17th centuries, the tower served as the town hall. Noteworthy, in the Porta do Sol, is an 18th-century window dated 1642.

Built during the reign of King Afonso III, it sits atop a rocky hillock next to the town. The castle, shaped like a quadrangular star, has a keep approximately 15 meters high. Several semi-spherical domes still remain at the corners of the wall, with slits for the use of firearms. It houses a museum inside.
