The castle walls remain, two doors (of the village and the Santarém) and some towers. The old Palace is a monumental residential tower of the 15th century. Plant composed of rectangular main body and two turrets inserted on the wall of the village. The curtain wall that unites the turrets, crowned by way of round, is torn by arched door broken abroad, down inside. The fortress stands on the eastern spur of Serra da Arrábida, from which you can see an extensive landscape from Sines to Sintra. Its main points of interest are the entrance, the 17th century walls, the convent of the Order of Santiago, the church of Santiago, from the 15th century, the Paços de D. Jorge, the turrets, the 14th century keep, the ruins of the church of Santa Maria, the parade ground and several portals. There is also the Castle Nucleus, one of the museum spaces of the Palmela Municipal Museum.

Castle overlooking the town, where the Church of São Miguel, dating from the 15th century, and a set of anthropomorphic graves from the late Middle Ages stand out. It has a polygonal, irregular shape and is made up of walls and several towers from the 15th and 16th centuries. It preserves the Vila Door and the Betrayal Door, the latter with Moorish influences. This is the second-largest castle on the Mondego defensive line.

During the reign of King Dinis, fortification and expansion work was carried out, with six towers being erected and walls being built around the town.
