This sculpture of King Dom Afonso Henriques, situated at one end of the Largo João Franco, soon after entering through the gates of the village, was opened in 2001 in the commemorations of the day 24 June municipal holiday in the city of Guimarães. To carry out this work, the author João Cutileiro was inspired by the books of primary statement of the 1940, where the first King of Portugal was represented with an amount.

It is at the top of a hill that we find the remains of the walls of Sernancelhe Castle. This rock castle dates back to the 12th/13th centuries, featuring an irregular circular plan.
