The Roman Ruins of Bobadela bear witness not only to the importance of the Roman city in ancient times, but also to the presence of ancient peoples, such as the Romans, who left their mark before the 4th century BC. From the ancient Roman city, a perfect round arch with a rusticated structure supported by strong pillars, the Roman amphitheater, several tombstones, and other remains of significant interest remain.

In this solar from the XVII century we have to stand out the existence of a distinct body integrated on the building and parallel to the frontage with open balconies supported by classic columns with a Coat of Arms on the entrance. The sixteen hundreds elements have to be mentioned, such as the porch with columns with simple capital and architrave decorated with triglyph, a door with a straight arch topped by a disrupted pediment decorated with volutes and cannon gargoyles.

Five floors’ tower facing two parallel streets, it is an example of the medieval architecture. The typology of the primitive tympanum and the arch side face of one of the first windows, make us believe that the building is from the XIII century. The remaining doors and square windows and, maybe, the last floor, are the result of transformations the building suffered in the modern period. This medieval building is one of the oldest in town.

This beach is located next to the Mina de S. Domingos, on the Tapada Grande Dam reservoir, part of the Guadiana Natural Park. In Maria do Mar are sold canned tuna, sardines, black scabbardfish, among other fish, which make very colorful spaces, a showcase of Portugal canning. Can and should try the snacks that are prepared from the existing cans such as sardine tiborna (€2,75, with glass of wine included).
