Vila do Bispo
Vila do Bispo is part of the Parque Natural do Sudoeste Alentejano e Costa Vicentina and is the westernmost municipality in the Algarve, where small flow freshwater courses. On the southern side, the landscape is marked by coves and bays. The many beaches in the municipality, the Cape of São Vicente and Sagres point are the attractions with greater visibility. Given the location, Vila do Bispo met a golden period at the time of discovery, being forever linked to the figure of the infante Dom Henrique, from Sagres, studied and planned their navigations. The importance of this site certify through the presence of several forts that still today can be contemplated and that served to protect the coast of the winds and the frames of fishing (tuna and sardine) from attacks of Corsairs of North Africa. The megalithic heritage is not abundant, but is more expressive in Vila do Bispo, mainly along the coast. Menhirs, necropolises and presenters, Roman remains and instruments related to agriculture are the most significant examples of this heritage. The cuisine is characterized essentially by what the sea gives. The fish, made of various shapes, and seafood are in every letter. Masada of fish, fish stew, Moorish or xarém popes, mackerel, mussels, rice alimados moray eel fries, raw roasted figs with limpets, streak of jam are some of many examples. In the flesh, are game dishes that stand out. The sweet fig and almond-based dough, sugar, sweet potato puffs and Glories are plentiful.
