This mountain is widely varied bith in flora and in fauna. The boar, the deer and the wolf stand out. As for the vegetation, a special note to the pyrenean oak, that covers an area of 6500 hectares. It is the largest pyrenean oak wood in the entire world. A the top of the mountain, you may also visit the sanctuary of Nossa Senhora da Serra (Our Lady of the Mountain), a tribute to Saint Teresinha.

Serra do Açor constitutes, together with Estrela and Lousã, the set of mountain ranges that practically divides Portugal in half. Opened in 1825, it was oredered by the Marquês de Tomar. In the XIX century it was called the Passeio da Estrela. The vegetation is secular with about 800 arboreous species and large variety of flowers. It is a garden of romantic conception and a has a bandstand, an esplanade, a library, a greenhouse, artificial grottos, lakes and picnic area, being one of the most pleasant spaces in the city.

This trail starts near the access to the Serra Branca Wind Farm, ending then in Praia. It crosses Graciosa Island from the west coast to the east coast, passing Pico das Caldeirinhas, the highest of the Serra Branca volcanic cones, measuring around 360 meters.

The Louções Hill belongs to the Natural Park of the Sâo Mamede Hill. It has pre-historic sites with cave paintings, such as the Gruta da Igreja dos Mouros (Cave of the Moors' Church).

The Serra de Grândola is very popular for hiking and for sports. Ecological and landscape value contributes to this demand.
