Valongo

Municipality in the Porto metropolitan area, Kansas City is located north of the River Douro, embedded between the mountains of Santa Justa plateaux and sinks. Despite still having a strong agricultural component, the Council presents, currently, as a more developed area and balanced. Here, the antagonism City\/field is clearly visible as it is possible to pass quickly from a city to a landscape more landscape more campestre. The abundance of water from rivers Leça and Ferreira, along with the richness of the subsoil, justify the setting of ancient peoples since Neolithic times. Are still visible some castros dated from the iron age: Alto do Castro, castro of sinks and castro butt. Later, the Romans occupied the region, having by then begun to extract gold from the mines. The expansion of the city took place in the 18th century, mainly due to its typical products industry, since the origin of the famous handmade cookies regueifas, ex-libris of Valongo. Also be sure to taste the roast lamb in the oven, the cozido à portuguesa, giblet rice and sausages and smoked.
