Pedrógão Grande
Located in the extreme northwest of the District of Leiria, Pedrógão Grande County is inserted in the area of the Northern pine forest, considered the largest forest patch in Europe, where the pines, eucalypts, acacias and olive trees dominate, with reflection in the local economy. In geological terms, the County is divided into two parts: the interior, predominantly schistose, and the Valley and land close to the River Zêzere. The construction of the IC8 and a set of recent roads infrastructures caused a substantial improvement in accessibility to the municipality. The beauty of the natural landscape is an attractive factor, bringing the municipality many visitors thirsting of clean air. The river beaches, walking trails, the imposing landscape, customs and traditions, are certainly a potential for tourism development, however, the preservation of these areas constitutes a municipal concern. When it comes to gastronomy, Pedrógão Grande stands out for trout, largemouth bass and bordalo, extant species in reservoirs of two large dams, Cabril and Bouçã, widely used in knitting local dining. Are also highly sought after other delicacies typical of the region, especially the bread pudding, the lamb, the fish soup, "bucho" and "maranhos".
